Mary Freije of Cohoes
Cohoes – Mary Freije of 240 Saratoga St., widow of Fred Freije and president of the Big Value Super Markets, died Thursday (3/6/1980) at her residence in Cohoes after a long illness
Born in Lebanon, the former Mary Ferris, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Ferris. Mrs. Freije resided in Troy for a number of years and Mr. Freije owned several markets in the city and various areas. Upon moving to Cohoes about 40 years ago, they operated the Big Value Super Markets. Mrs. Freije was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Troy.
Survivors include fours sons, Philip Freije and Fred Freije Jr., both of Cohoes, Charles Freije of Florida and Joseph Freije of Waterford; three daughter, Mary Ann and Margaret Freije, both of Cohoes and Mrs. Brian Stancil of Shreveport, La; six grand children; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Another son, George Freije died within the last year.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Marra Funeral Home, Remsen and Columbia Streets in Cohoes and at 9:30 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in Cohoes where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Internment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.
