"Frederick J. Ferris - Catholic University Dean - Frederick J. Ferris, 82, who served as dean of Catholic University's social services school from 1960 to 1968, died Oct. 13 in Washington at the Ingleside at Rock Creek Retirement Community where he had spent the last two years. He had Parkinson's disease. "Dr. Ferris, a former Bethesda resident who came to the Washington area in 1960, served on the staff of the White House Commission on Aging in 1970 and 1971 and was planning and research chief of the American Association of Retired Persons from 1971 to 1986. "He was born in Troy, N.Y. and served with the Army in Italy during World War II. He was a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and received master's and doctoral degrees in social work from Columbia University. Before coming to Washington, he taught social work at Boston College. "Survivors include his wife, Dr. Ellen W. Ferris of Washington; and a sister."
